No Scam

I vividly remember that day, 3rd January 2014. Just a few weeks before this day, BJP had won three chief ministerial berth i.e. Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and horse trading had begun in Delhi as AAP & Congress had formed the government. Team Modi were moving their pieces to capture 7-RCR. The fall of UPA was evident. In all this scenario, the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had organised a Press Conference on the occasion of completion of 10 years of UPA Rule in the country. Famous for not speaking at all in his entire tenure, everyone was eager to hear what MMS was going to speak on that day. The speech of MMS followed by Q&A is not important here. How much I know, out of the total questions asked by the media personnel, excluding one or two, all answers were already rehearsed. But the line which MMS had used to end the presser is what is fresh even today in everyone's mind and shall live for centuries whenever the first decade of 21st Centuries politics will be talked about. When asked about 'How do you see your legacy in the view of fact that you failed to act'. Doctor said and I quote, "I honestly believe that history will be kinder to me than the contemporary media, or for that matter, the Opposition parties in Parliament."

Come 2017. Doctors words just came true, to some extent at least. A few weeks ago, the Special CBI Court has acquitted the main accused, former Telecom Minister A Raja and DMK Leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi in the cases related to the 2G-Spectrum Allocation Scam. The court opined, "Absolutely no hesitation in holding that the prosecution has miserably failed to prove any charge against any of the accused, made in its well choreographed charge sheet."

Even today everyone remembers the staggering figure of 1.76 Lakh Crore making newspapers headlines. And today the same headlines are claiming them to be the National Heroes. The Supreme Court had then cancelled 122 Licences in the light of irregularities. Everyone knew Data was leaking from the DoT, deadlines were extended to suit the Corporates requirements. And today that all has been termed as a choreographed event. The AAP gained popularity by milking on this scam and acquired 28 seats in its maiden election in 2015 and later a brute majority of 67 out of the 70 seats in Delhi thus unseating the 15 years of Congress Regime. The Modi led BJP juggernaut utilised this as the main fodder in the entire election campaign which was concentrated on 'Congress Mukt Bharat' also came to power in 2014 in the country with a full majority thus bringing back the Single Party government after 1984. Today, none of them has anything concrete to offer on the verdict.

I don't wish to share any technical knowledge or contents of the case. But as a common man I really ponder how few individuals can make the entire nation dance to their tunes. We know everything and yet instead of talking on that we enjoy the mockery. A politician be it from the rulers breed or oppositions', their net worth never goes down. Whereas in our case, our monthly budget gets impacted if the prices of onion rises. The scams only change identity of power not ideology of power. The culprits are never punished. If someone shall ask me What is Democracy? I will say a state of mind where people feel they are independent even when they follow laws which are formed to suit certain interests, where the rich becomes more rich and they have a total immunity, where the politician never gets punished but will be rolled in National Flag in the end, where people define themselves with the candidate they voted in the previous election.

Words should have new meaning for all us today. From Bofors till 2G, every political scam was a stepping stone for the opposition to become rulers. Nothing has changed. We are not destroying the future because, if look now, there isn't any future visible. Things need to change, We need to change.
